Kids miss out on tournaments
Just heard that 100's of kids have lost their chance to play in tournaments at the Boleyn this summer because of the relaying of the pitch. Teams from France and Jersey and UK, who have been fund raising all year to get to these tournaments, now stand to loose all their money as flights and hotels costs are non-refundable based on the lateness of the notification. Apparently, WH are offering no compensation nor any assistance in finding alternatives. This can't be right, can it? Terrible PR if so.....

Re: Kids miss out on tournaments
Not every age group were playing at Corinthian Casuals. A group of boys from Ireland flew over for the weekend stayed at the West Ham hotel and played in a hastily arranged mini tournament in Upminster.

Lovely bunch of people not bitter about the events, just glad to make the trip stay at the club hotel and get a tour of the ground.

On a plus side the club reimbursed their hotel money, a couple of the boys/parents did pull out though.

If we do draw a team from that neck of the woods I might be tempted to meet up with them.

What was a shame was they kept it a secret from the boys until only a few weeks ago and then found out a week later it was to be cancelled.

Just to say that whilst qualification for Europe had been mentioned in some quarters, I assumed they were talking about next year's competition (group stages starting Sept ?). I didn't even know there were prelims starting on the 2nd July.

Oh I do love a happy ending, it seems this has gone ahead today at Corinthian-Casuals

So there were no wasted flight tickets, hotels or time....

Kia you're owning this thread, superb work.

People need to stop being so outraged, it's not affecting them so why are they getting so het up about it. If they're going to say that the club should have warned nice old Jeff then at the same time Jeff with years of organizing events should have used some common sense and asked the club "is there a chance the pitch needs relaying."

So West Ham shouldn't organise these tournaments which they run year in year that have given pleasure to thousands of people on the off chance they might qualify for Europe by way of the Fair Play League, which only ONE English team has ever done before?

Righto

whufcroe,

Silly question,my point is they shouldn't organise tournaments and let people down they must have seen this coming.

Its bad planning and amateurish.

Are you really actually a West Ham fan?

Because it seems to me you would rather a bunch of kids have a kick about in an empty stadium over West Ham playing European football.

Re: Kids miss out on tournaments
West Ham must have known several weeks ago what the provisional timetable would be for relaying the pitch if they were to qualify for Europe. As Penners said, all they had to do was to let the organiser know in advance this was a possibility. He could potentially have found a back up venue which At this notice presumably he won't be able to.

I don't think the Club should compensate anybody but it is bad business practice not to keep customers informed of potential changes to the services you provide them, especially in this sort of case.

If the club did provisionally warn him in advance then fair enough but I take it from this conversation that they didn't.

I was meant to be in the adult's tournament. Gutted.

'I'd be fucking gutted.'

So would I be, but to say it's a disgrace is a bit much. We're in Europe, there's far bigger things to worry about than a few kids playing on the pitch in the close season.

My two boys play Sunday football in the Chelmsford league . They are both good.
It's an enjoyable slog, and when they score and pley well it's worth every second.
To think parents have forked out only to be let down is a disgrace.
I'd be fucking gutted.

Re: Kids miss out on tournaments
I never buy them in advance. Just saying i seem to remember people moaning they had shelled out for tickets, then sky moved the game meaning they were out of pocket.

For the record, the only critiscm i have of the club on this is like i said before. Surely a heads up could have gone out weeks ago. Ie)

"In the event of whu qualifying for europe, all tournamts to be held at UP in June will be cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause"

I'm not calling Penners stupid, well not unless he's brought non-refundable tickets or hotels to a game moved by Sky in the PL.

Not now unless you're stupid of course

But the other season, Brighton away was changed very late catching plenty of West Ham fans out.

I can't remember to much of a clamour for the club to refund the fans travel and hotels.

I also filled that under shit happens.
